The Wisconsin American Legion is happy to announce that the Mequon-Thiensville American Legion Post 457 will continue to do business through a revitalization event to re-organization the post. “Department leadership was made aware of concerns that the post may have been losing its way," stated Wisconsin American Legion State Commander Karl Stuvengen. “The post has 99 veteran members to-date. Closing a post of this size is not considered an option. This is where we bring in a revitalization committee to look at how the business is being run and make changes to help them succeed.”

The revitalization team, headed by 2nd District Commander Charles Young, has started the process by asking the community what they thought of the Mequon-Thiensville American Legion. “Both the city and the high-school were approached and both expressed interest in the need for the veteran involvement within the community," explained Young. “Veterans fill an important role in all communities they serve. Some are more active than others but this community wants to continue to involve their veterans.”

The building, a repurposed Mobil gas station, was moved in 2014 about 200 feet west of its former location and was completely gutted and overhauled on the inside. The current building boasts roughly 3,000 square feet, is handicap-accessible and includes a large meeting hall, kitchen, office and bathrooms. “This is a beautiful building," admired Department Vice Commander Jim Johnson. “It is in a great location to rent and hold events.”

The Mequon-Thiensville Post is currently undergoing leadership changes. “We appreciate all the years of dedication to the previous leadership of this post," stated State Membership Chair Joe Leone. “Their efforts are the building blocks for the continued success of this post. Now, we move forward.”

The Wisconsin American Legion is active throughout the state supporting current military personnel and veterans, sponsoring American Legion Baseball and Softball, Badger Boys State, Oratorical Contests, scholarships and other activities for youth. “This is what the community is looking for from the Mequon-Thiensville post," commented Young. “They participated in parades, sponsored an American Legion Baseball team and were very active in the community at one time. We are here to help them become active once again.”
